Head Chef

Head Chef Position Overview:

Prepare meals for staff and guests of Shepherd’s Spring following the organization’s food philosophy guidelines and state health department regulations. Accountable to the Executive Director and will work in conjunction with the Retreats Manager.

Qualifications:

1. High School education mandatory

2. Must be at least 21 years of age.

3. Minimum 3 years food service experience required.

4. ServSafe or equivalent certification (or willing to become certified within 3 months of hire).

5. Able to lift 30 lbs with no concern of bodily injury to one's self.

6. Working knowledge of food safety guidelines.

7. Working knowledge of food preparation and holding techniques.

8. Working knowledge of food allergy alternatives (i.e. gluten free, lactose intolerant) 9. Working knowledge of various dietary alternatives (i.e. vegetarian, vegan)

10. Strategic and analytical thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects.

11. Ability to work and communicate with a variety of staff ages and abilities, including volunteers.

12. Commitment to the highest quality food service and presentation.

13. Ability to work weekend shifts is a must.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop menus in general and specifically in coordination with guest groups, summer camps, and Global Village program as well as special events or any other food service needs of the organization.

2. Purchase food and maintain inventories of food and equipment.

3. Maintain the kitchen and inform the Maintenance Director of the failure of any kitchen equipment.

4. Prepare main course and side dishes according to pre-set menu.

5. Prepare beverages as needed by staff and guests.

6. Prepare and refurbish hospitality items as needed by guests.

7. Follow posted mealtime schedule; present meals in a timely fashion.

8. Direct additional kitchen staff in meal preparation assistance as needed.

9. Supervise and assist with food and beverage storage following meals.

10. Supervise and assist, if necessary, with the washing of dishes, kitchen utensils, pots and pans. Make sure all dishes are put away correctly.

11. See that the kitchen is cleaned after every meal and is maintained so as to be available for inspection at all times and will meet all necessary state and county regulations.

12. Ensure all lights and equipment are appropriately turned off at the end of the shift. 13. Oversee and assist with major cleaning of the kitchen at least twice annually.

14. Participate in weekly staff meetings.

Summer Staff (Camp Counselor):

Responsible to lead approximately 8-10 campers each week with a co-counselor (or CIT). Must be an enthusiastic leader, active listener, positive role model, and nurturer to each camper. Must possess a mature and active faith in Christ with the ability to creatively lead Bible studies and devotions. Must posses a passion for selflessly investing in children and youth. CPR and First Aid required (these trainings will be completed during staff training). Must be 18 years of age.

Paid 6-week commitment from the end of June to the beginning of August.

Support Staff:

These staff member provide support for all areas of summer camp programming including AV support, activity support, Lifeguard duties, cleaning, transporting meals to and from the pavilion, etc. May also be required to fill in as counselor as needed. Must be responsible and trustworthy to work without direct supervision and be self-motivated and self-disciplined. Lifeguard certification and/or canoe certification highly recommended.

Paid 6-week commitment from the end of June to the beginning of August.

Counselors In Training (CITs)

This is a position designed for first or second year counselors who are 16 or 17 years old to provide support for all areas of summer camp programming. CIT's will participate in all staff training and will shadow Senior Staff during the summer camp season. This position is for people with a heart for camp and ministry and for those with a desire to serve as senior counselors in the future. Position Description also attached below. CITs will be paired up with a Summer Staff member and will be under their supervision. They will never be left alone to supervise campers without a legal adult present.

Paid 6-week commitment from the end of June to the beginning of August.

Retreat Host

Create a welcoming environment to guests when they arrive, You will greet each guest, help with handing out booking information, room keys, and answer any questions they may have. You will be staying in the host room for overnight guests.  Maintain the cleanliness of the facility, and keep the bathrooms stocked with necessities.  Must be friendly, welcoming, and provide excellent customer service.

Nightly stipend with room and board.

Camp Nurse

Responsible for camper health and safety. Must have experience in nursing. Will be responsible to keep a log of medications given and distribute medications daily. Treats minor injuries and assess campers/staff that may need further medical attention. Must relate well to campers and parents. Must have a valid nursing license or certified medical technician license.

Apply for 3-day or 6-day increments. Stipend with room and board.

Lifeguard

Work with the Facility Director/CPO to guard the lives in the swimming pool. Must be able to be in sun for long hours.  Provide a safe and fun environment for people to swim. Having your CPO certification a plus! Need to be at least 16 years old and be a certified lifeguard.

Housekeeping 

Ensure cleanliness within main camp buildings. Oversee inventory of cleaning supplies within all buildings on the property. Prior experience is helpful. Must be able to work without direct supervision and be self-motivated. Must have a servant’s attitude and desire to be a team player.
