Shepherd's Spring Volunteers
Nestled in its peaceful, beautiful setting, Shepherd's Spring is a place where all persons are respected and appreciated for their unique personalities, abilities, and contributions.
There are many ways for you to share your talents with the children, adults, and incredible staff at Shepherd's Spring.
Summer Camp Volunteers - Summer camp volunteers may choose from 3 opportunities- Cabin Counselor, Activities Counselor or Camp Support
Cabin Conselor - Cabin Counselors must be at least 18 years old (or 20 years old for youth or SAMY camp) and spend the week living with and guiding campers. Our camper to counselor ratio is small: 4 to 1. This small ratio facilitates a family atmosphere in the cabin and small group sessions. Counselors may lead small group Bible study, games, and other fun, learning activities. Cabin counselors are expected to be good Christian role models show an appreciation for God's creation. Cabin counselor volunteers MUST participate in training event before their week of summer camp.
Activities Counselor - Activities counselors are responsible for leading specific small or large group activities. They should be knowledgeable and have some experience in leading the activity of their choice. Examples might be basket making, soap making, fire building, wilderness skills, recreational games, etc. Activities counselors may stay on-site for a week, for multiple sessions, or can come on special days during camp for their activity. They may also lead one or more different activities.- Camp Support - Camp support volunteers helped to many of the behind the scenes task at camp - which might include cleaning restrooms, sweeping and mopping in the dining hall, filling water jugs, setting up activity areas, etc. Camp support volunteers may stay for an entire week or come in as needed.
- Facility - Must be at least 18 years of age. Jobs may include cleaning, painting, and trail maintenance along with other site maintenance tasks.
Food Service - Helping with food service preparation, service and cleanup. Helpers are needed all year long. They are especially helpful during summer camps and Exploritas programs. Accommodations can be provided for extended stay helpers. Duties may include baking or preparation of items for the salad bar or a turn in the dish room!- Office/Hospitality - Called as needed to help with mailings, camp manual assembly or other office duties. Receive training to host for a weekend event, providing support to rental groups or during weeklong Exploritas programs. Hosts provide a friendly face, answer questions, check restrooms for needed supplies and offer Christian hospitality to guests at Shepherd's Spring.
- Heifer Global Village - Help with programming by being a facilitator. The facilitator works with a variety of participants of all ages. Training for facilitation will be provided. Heifer Global Village will welcome animals in the spring of 2010. Helpers are needed to care for the animals daily, weekly or monthly as your schedule allows. Goats, chickens, turkeys and rabbits are expected by May 2010. Training will be provided for all animal care helpers.
