Birdwatcher Retreat

Join professional
ornithologist Chris Eberly and biology professor Doug Ruby as we learn
about the different birds present at Shepherd's Spring and the surrounding
area.
The program is designed for beginner to intermediate birders. A great family opportunity. It will include some basic bird watching techniques, bird games, migration information, great posters, planting and feeding suggestions for your backyard and time to listen to the sounds of the birds in the area. (Snacks, too) Lots of time to look and listen for our feathered friends with experienced birders as your guide!
General Information
Accommodations will be in the comfortable poplar village cabins. Bathrooms are inside each cabin. Beds are bunk. Separate cabins will be provided for guys and gals.This is a family-friendly event — you may request an entire cabinet for your family group! A limited number of rooms in the Lodge will also be available.
Full retreat package includes two nights lodging, Friday evening dinner, three meals on Saturday and brunch on Sunday. Bring your own sleeping bag or sheets, pillow and towels, binoculars and field guides. Reduced price is available for those who do not wish to stay overnight. Early bird walk will begin at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Breakfast is at 8 a.m. Join us at either time! Trails are mostly wooded and uneven surfaces.
Lifetime Birding List
The abundance and variety of birds at Shepherd Spring provides a challenge of identifying both familiar and new birds when the weekend list. We will aim to help everyone learn more about the birds they see and hear as we explore the camp and nearby areas.
Possible sightings could include:
- Baltimore Orioles
- Warblers
- Blue Jays
- Raptors
- Eastern Towhee's
- Phoebes
A checklist will be provided for everyone to take home.
