Shepherd’s Spring Outdoor Ministry Center

Shepherd’s Spring Outdoor Ministry and Retreat Center is a beautiful 220-acre retreat setting of rolling, wooded land along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal and the Potomac River, just three miles from Antietam National Battlefield near Sharpsburg, MD and about 1.5 hours from Washington, DC. Its mission is as an outdoor ministry, education, conference, and retreat center, provides opportunities for spiritual renewal and growth, stewardship of God’s creation, and the experience of community, for all ages. It is fulfilled through year-round programing featuring summer camps for children and youth, programmed as well as unstructured retreats for individuals, religious and educational groups, non-profit and business organizations as well as governmental entities and other outdoor experiences as advantaged by its location to so many area attractions and historic sites.

Shepherd’s Spring also partners with Heifer International in a global village setting of 18 housing/camping structures (currently building the 13th) and programs where all ages can learn about and experience primitive living conditions in select countries where Heifer seeks to impact around the world. In addition, Shepherd’s Spring hosts many fun and educational travel programs for adults 40 and over in ROAD SCHOLAR: Adventures in Lifelong Learning program (formerly Elderhostel).

As an independent, non-profit organization affiliated with the Church of the Brethren, Shepherd’s Spring seeks to provide Christian hospitality as well as space and opportunities for renewal and growth. It teaches stewardship of God’s creation and provides experiences where all ages can learn to become a community modeling the life of Christ.
